Biosketch: Who is Audrey Lucille

Welcome to my blog! A brief introduction is, of course, in order. I find this task somewhat complicated considering that the truth behind who I am should remain anonymous. But, here goes…
Academics
I grew up in a small town in northern Connecticut. A country girl who didn’t like country music, to put it simply. When college came around I decided to move too far for a weekend drive, but not far enough for a costly flight home. With these restrictions, I ended up in Pennsylvania. I studied marketing and advertising. Opportunities opened up when I studied a semester in London. Not only did my studies take a turn for international business and intercultural communications, but also my interests in travel and culture really took hold.
Work
After graduation I decided two things. One, I needed to gain experience in sales if I were to work my way in to the world of marketing. And two, there was no way I could sell something I didn’t care about such as staplers or copy machines. With that, I headed to Boston and in to the heart of the educational travel industry. I worked with teachers to organize, promote, and go on educational trips abroad. This was the best job to marry my interest in sales and travel. However, the hours were less than ideal and the salary was nearly non-existent. So, I went the way of education (ironic, I know).
Now, I work in administration at a university. I am largely a coordinator between the students and the institution. I also manage some of universities smaller certificate programs. Everyday, it seems, my position alters with tasks and responsibilities. It certainly keeps me on my toes.
Writing
Of the subjects to study within business, marketing may have the most focus on writing. To me, it is the most personable area within business and communication is key. As a travel agent and a salesperson, my communication skills were my lifeline. However, my practice, beyond emails, was in the way of writing itineraries. It was not exactly a writing focused career.  In my administrative position, I am consistently emailing, reviewing brochures, and dabble in editing our web pages.
Beyond my education and careers I do enjoy storytelling. With my number one hobby being travel I think storytelling is a good way to share and record my experience. I know my grammar and style could drastically be whipped in to shape. However, various people have told me told I have a friendly and upbeat voice. I’ve heard that my stories are easy to read and enjoyable. I would love to practice writing a bit more so that my stories are better for myself and my audience.
